BANK FAILURES AND THEIR MANAGEMENT
Friday, 20-07 2018

Because bank failures are not something that we want to happen, and because they are relatively rare, we don’t plan for them. This often means that the management of financial institution failures is inefficient, and imposes significant cost on national governments and the institutions’ counterparties (including depositors). One of the outcomes of the global financial crisis, however, is that the authorities have learned from this failure to plan that they need to plan for failure.

This presentation looks at problems caused by bank failures internationally, and at the attempts being made by governments and regulators to develop procedures to mitigate some of the problems that bank failures cause.
